Pool planning through five key steps

Before starting pool construction, it is important to carefully plan every detail. Čabar Plast recommends paying attention to the following five key factors when planning a pool:

  • Budget – Determine the budget for the pool itself and the accompanying equipment. The costs will depend on the pool size, type of installation, and additional systems (filtration, heating, lighting, covers, etc.).
  • Shape and dimensions – Think about the desired shape and size of the pool, as well as the area of the yard where it will be placed. Čabar Plast manufactures pools exclusively to order, customised to fit your space, whether you want a small family pool or a larger one for recreation.
  • Position (location) – Where to place the pool in the yard? It is recommended that the pool be on the sunny side, so that the water naturally warms up during the day with solar energy. Also, avoid placing it under deciduous trees (leaves make water maintenance harder) and make sure the pool is not too close to the neighbouring property (at least about 1 m away for stability and privacy).
  • Type of installation – Decide whether you want an above-ground pool or a pool built into the ground. Above-ground pools are faster and simpler to install, while in-ground pools require construction work (digging, base preparation, and possibly concrete reinforcement around the pool). The advantage of plastic prefabricated pools is that they are considered modular structures that can be disassembled and moved, and generally do not require a building permit (except for concrete pools).
  • Heating and maintenance – Consider whether you want to heat the water in your pool. If the pool is placed in a sunny spot, additional heating may not be necessary. However, for use during colder days, water heating systems are available. You should also plan the filtration system and the use of chemicals for water maintenance. Čabar Plast plastic pools are compatible with all standard systems and resistant to chemical agents used for cleaning and disinfection.

Advantages of Čabar Plast prefabricated pools

If you are thinking about installing a pool, Čabar Plast prefabricated pools offer a perfect balance of durability, quality, and practicality.

Here are the main advantages that make them an excellent choice for your home:

  • High-quality material – Čabar Plast pools are made of polypropylene and HDPE (high-density polyethylene), which provides long-term benefits. The material hardly ages and loses only about 5% of its properties after 50 years of use. This means the pool retains its strength and watertightness for decades.
  • Durability and resistance – Unlike pools with liners or weaker prefabricated structures, Čabar Plast plastic pools have thick, self-supporting walls with reinforcements. Excellent load capacity and impact resistance ensure there are no dents even under higher physical stress. They are resistant to UV radiation and extreme temperatures, from -30°C to +80°C, without cracking or loss of properties.
  • Chemical resistance – Polypropylene pools are resistant to chemicals used for disinfection and water maintenance, such as chlorine and algaecides. Cleaning agents do not damage the pool walls or alter their appearance. The plastic does not rust and there is no risk of leaks due to corrosion, making it an exceptionally reliable and long-lasting solution.
  • Quick installation and minimal maintenance – One of the biggest advantages of these pools is their easy and fast installation. Unlike concrete pools, which take months to build, a Čabar Plast pool can be installed and ready for use in just a few days, depending on size and type. The structure is lightweight but extremely strong, which makes transport and placement easier. Maintenance is simple thanks to smooth plastic surfaces that are easy to clean, while the shape prevents dirt build-up. Additionally, maintenance costs are lower compared to classic pools.

Shape, dimensions, and maximum permitted depth of prefabricated pools in Serbia

For Čabar Plast pools, the shape and dimensions are fully adaptable to your needs and available space.

Each pool is made to measure, which means you can choose between rectangular, round, oval, or irregular shapes, as well as the desired depth. All combinations are possible, from shallow pools for children to deeper models designed for swimming.

Maximum permitted depth of prefabricated pools in Serbia

It is often said that the maximum depth of a prefabricated pool is limited to 1.5 metres, but such a rule does not exist in the laws of the Republic of Serbia. This is a recommendation based on safety guidelines, not a legal requirement.

According to the Law on Planning and Construction and the Regulation on Specific Types of Facilities and Works Not Requiring a Building Permit, pools with an area of up to 25 m² and a depth of up to 1.2 m can be built without a building permit.

This does not mean that deeper pools are prohibited, only that for those, the necessary documentation (project and permit) must be obtained. Therefore, a pool can be both 1.5 m deep and deeper, as long as it is built in accordance with technical regulations.

These rules apply to both private and commercial facilities. The key criterion is the size of the pool, not its type. Owners of commercial pools are required to follow regulations and safety standards, including the presence of lifeguards and maintenance of hygiene standards, but no regulation explicitly limits pool depth for safety reasons.

In conclusion, the 1.5 m limit is not a legal norm, but rather a recommended practice for swimmer safety. Prefabricated pools in Serbia can be both shallower and deeper, provided that construction and safety regulations are respected.

Steps for prefabricated pools

At the customer’s request, Čabar Plast pools can be equipped with built-in steps that make it easier to enter and exit the water. The most common are Roman steps (semi-circular in shape), which provide an elegant appearance and safe access to the water for all ages.

The steps are designed in accordance with the pool’s dimensions and shape, and in larger models they can be positioned in the corner or as a semi-circular extension of the pool.

As a simpler option, classic stainless-steel ladders are also available, which attach to the edge of the pool. This type of access is practical, easy to maintain, and suitable for all types of prefabricated pools.

Colours of prefabricated pools

Choosing the colour of your pool is not only an aesthetic decision. The colour directly affects the visual impression of the water, as well as the sense of cleanliness and how well the pool blends into your yard or property.

The most popular choice is blue, which visually enhances the feeling of freshness and evokes natural turquoise waters of tropical destinations. However, Čabar Plast offers a wide range of pool colours, with the option of further personalisation according to your preferences.

Available colours of prefabricated pools:

  • Light blue (Uni bleu clair) – A classic, refreshing shade that creates a clear and bright appearance. An excellent choice for a natural setting.
  • Atlantic blue (Uni bleu atlantique) – A more intense blue with a distinctive reflection. Ideal for a modern and striking pool look.
  • Marble blue (Uni marbré bleu) – A deep shade with a marbled visual effect, adding a luxurious and mysterious tone to the water.
  • Black tone (Uni noir) – An almost black shade, perfect for a contemporary design and strong contrast. Suitable for commercial and designer ambience.
  • Green tone (Uni vert argile) – A natural, earthy shade that blends with the surroundings and vegetation. It creates the effect of a “natural lake.”
  • Sand beige (Uni sable) – A warm, light tone that gives the water a golden reflection. Fits beautifully with Mediterranean and rustic environments.
  • Light grey (Uni gris clair) – A subtle shade that gives the water a faint bluish tint. Creates a modern and minimalist impression.
  • Dark grey / graphite (Uni ardoise, Uni granité) – Intense grey tones that blend perfectly into luxurious surroundings.
  • White (Uni blanc) – Visually the “cleanest” pool colour. Reflects light beautifully, giving the water a bright and crystal-clear look.

Our tips for choosing the colour of prefabricated pools:

  • Light colours (white, light blue, beige) are an excellent choice as they give a sense of freshness and water transparency. They visually reveal any impurities and highlight the pool’s cleanliness, which can be useful for regular maintenance.
  • Dark colours (blue, grey, black) create a sense of depth and luxury, but can also conceal impurities and heat the water more easily because they absorb more warmth.

All shades we use are resistant to UV radiation and pool chemicals – thanks to UV stabilisation, the colours do not fade even after many years of use.

All examples of available colours can be seen on our Instagram profile, where we recommend browsing the photos to help you decide which colour best suits your space.

Installation process of Čabar Plast prefabricated pools

Installing a prefabricated pool with the Čabar Plast team is fast and efficient, whether you choose an in ground or above ground model.

  • Site preparation (for an in ground pool) – If you want a pool that is installed in the ground, the first step is excavation of the hole according to the pool’s dimensions. After that, the bottom is levelled and a layer of sand or fine gravel is added so the base is stable. Before lowering the pool into the excavation, all necessary connections are installed, such as water, electricity and drainage for the pump, filter, lighting and other equipment. The pool is then carefully lowered into the excavation with a crane, and the space between the pool walls and the ground is filled with dry concrete or sand so that everything is firm and stable.
  • Installation of an above ground pool – For pools that are not placed in the ground, the process is simpler and quicker. You only need to prepare a flat and firm base, concrete, well compacted gravel or even a construction made of wood or metal. It is important that the surface is completely level so the pool is stable. If desired, a terrace or steps can be built around the pool for easier access and a more attractive appearance.
  • Commissioning – Once the pool is installed, all systems are connected, including the pump, filters, nozzles, lighting and other equipment. When all connections are complete, the pool is filled with water and ready for use. In most cases, the entire installation process takes only a few days, and swimming can begin immediately.

Maintenance of prefabricated pools

Čabar Plast prefabricated pools require minimal but regular maintenance to keep the water clear and hygienically safe. The smooth plastic surfaces of the interior prevent the build-up of algae and dirt, so the pool can easily be cleaned with an ordinary brush or sponge. It is also necessary to occasionally check the pH level of the water and the concentration of disinfectants, which can be done easily using standard test kits.

Thanks to the material’s resistance, the pools withstand all common chemicals used for cleaning and disinfection without any risk of structural damage. Regular filtration and basic maintenance are enough to keep the pool clean and safe for use throughout the entire swimming season.

Preparing the pool for winter

Although prefabricated pools are resistant to low temperatures down to -30°C, proper winter preparation extends their lifespan and makes reopening in spring much easier. The following steps are recommended:

  • Drain part of the water – to just below the level of the skimmer or other built-in elements.
  • Empty all pipes and fittings – to prevent water from freezing inside the installations.
  • Add antifreeze – for extra protection.
  • Insert floating devices (ice compensators) – to prevent pressure on the pool walls caused by ice.
  • Cover the pool with a winter cover – to prevent the accumulation of leaves and debris.

With proper preparation, the pool can safely withstand the winter and be ready for use as soon as the first warm days arrive.
