Above-ground water tanks are installed directly on the ground surface or on structures that allow for their elevation. The main advantage of such tanks is the ease of access for maintenance, inspection, and repairs. However, they are exposed to weather elements like UV radiation, extreme temperatures, and mechanical damage, which can affect their lifespan and efficiency.
Underground tanks, on the other hand, are installed below the ground surface. This installation method offers better protection from weather conditions and mechanical damage, making underground tanks often more durable. Installing underground tanks requires thorough preparation, including excavation, foundation preparation, and ensuring drainage to avoid erosion around the tank. This process can be more time-consuming and expensive compared to installing above-ground tanks.
One of the key differences between above-ground and underground tanks is their visibility and space occupation. Above-ground tanks can impact the aesthetics of the surroundings and take up space that could be used for other purposes. Underground tanks, however, do not affect the landscape’s appearance and allow for better utilization of surface space.
Maintenance of above-ground and underground tanks also differs. Above-ground tanks are more accessible, which facilitates regular inspections and maintenance. For underground tanks, maintenance can be more challenging due to limited access, but they generally require less frequent upkeep due to their protected position.
