Čabar Plast separators are key elements in the wastewater purification process, especially when it comes to separating light liquids like oils and fats from other wastewater components. These separators can be categorized based on the method of installation and the type of purification process they use.

Features of Fat and Oil Separators

Fat and oil separators are produced in accordance with EN858-1 and EN858-2 standards, using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as the base material. Thanks to the quality of the used HDPE, these separators are characterized by longevity and high resistance, with preserved characteristics even after more than 30 years of use.

The lightweight nature of polyethylene allows for easy manipulation and installation of the separators at the desired location. Additionally, a UV stabilizer is included in the material composition, giving the separators extra protection from direct sunlight, making them durable even in external conditions.

These characteristics make our separators a reliable solution for efficiently separating fats and oils from wastewater, thus contributing to environmental protection.

Types of separators based on installation:

Vertical Fat and Oil Separators

Vertical separators are often used for applications where space for installation is limited. They have a compact structure and are designed to use vertical flow, which enables efficient separation of pollutant particles from the liquid. These separators are ideal for deeper burial in the ground, where gravity assists in the separation process.

Horizontal Fat and Oil Separators

Horizontal separators are suitable for applications where more horizontal space is available. These separators allow for a longer flow path of the liquid, leading to better separation and efficiency. Horizontal separators are typically used when larger volumes of wastewater need to be processed or when more detailed separation is required.

Technological processes within separators:

1. Sedimentation Process

The sedimentation process forms the basis of the separator’s operation, where gravity is used to separate heavier particles, which have a greater mass than water, allowing them to settle at the bottom of the separator. This process is effective for separating coarse pollution fractions such as sand, silt, and other particles.

2. Free Oil Flotation Process

In the flotation process, free oils and fats that are lighter than water are separated to the surface of the liquid thanks to their lower density. The efficiency of this process is significantly increased by using a coalescing separator, which allows small oil droplets to merge into larger ones and more easily separate from the liquid.

3. Sorption Purification Process

An additional stage in the purification process involves filtration through a sorption material, which can absorb remaining pollutants from the liquid. This process allows for further cleaning and improvement of the purified water’s quality. The filter material can be regenerated or replaced, depending on the degree of saturation and pollution.

For optimal functioning and efficiency, regular maintenance of the separators is very important, including checking the condition of the coalescing filter, cleaning the sediment, and regenerating or replacing the sorption material. With proper design, installation, and maintenance, Čabar Plast separators can significantly contribute to environmental protection and efficient wastewater management.

Fat Separators

Fat separators are key elements in wastewater treatment systems, especially in facilities where food is processed and where large quantities of oils and fats are used. They are designed to efficiently separate fats and oils from other components of wastewater, thereby reducing the risk of clogging and damage to sewage systems.

Capacity and Design of Fat Separators

The capacity of fat separators should match the quantity and type of wastewater generated at a specific facility. This means that the size and design of the separators must be adapted to the specific needs of restaurants, hotels, the food industry, slaughterhouses, and similar establishments. The efficiency of separators directly depends on their ability to handle the maximum flow and concentration of fats in the wastewater.

Separation Process in Fat Separators

The separation process in fat separators encompasses several key steps. First, wastewater enters the separator where coarser particles settle at the bottom. Then, the water passes through a series of partitions or filters that further separate fats from the water. Fats, due to their lower density compared to water, float on the surface where they are retained until removed.

Maintenance of Fat Separators

Regular maintenance is crucial for maintaining the efficiency of fat separators. This includes visual inspection, cleaning accumulated fats and oils, and controlling the filters and partitions within the separator. Removed fats and oils should be disposed of in accordance with local waste regulations to avoid environmental pollution.

Installation of Fat Separators

When installing fat separators, it is important to ensure the proper location and distance from the source of wastewater. The optimal location allows for the reduction of wastewater temperature before entering the separator, which can improve separation efficiency. Also, easy access to the separator for maintenance and inspection should be ensured.

Fat separators are essential for effective wastewater management in facilities that intensively use oils and fats. With proper design, installation, and maintenance, these systems can significantly contribute to the protection of sewage infrastructure and the environment from the negative impacts of contaminated wastewater.

Oil Separators

Oil separators are essential devices for wastewater treatment in industrial and commercial facilities where oils and petroleum derivatives are used. These separators are designed to efficiently remove oil and other light liquids from wastewater before it is discharged into the sewage system or the environment. There are three main types of oil separators: gravity separators, coalescent filter separators, and bypass separators.

Gravity Separators

Gravity separators use the principle of density difference between oil and water. Oil, being lighter than water, naturally rises to the surface where it can be easily removed. These separators are usually equipped with a skimmer that continuously removes the oil layer from the surface.

Coalescent Filter Separators

Coalescent filter separators use special filters that increase the process of joining small oil droplets into larger ones, making it easier for them to be separated from the water. Coalescent filters are particularly effective in removing very fine oil droplets that cannot be easily separated by gravity methods.

Bypass Separators

Bypass separators are designed for situations where large volumes of water need to be treated in a short period of time, such as during heavy rains. These separators allow a portion of the water, which exceeds the capacity of the separator, to be diverted (bypassed) directly into the drain, while the contaminated water with oil continues to be treated in the separator..

Biological Sponge Separators

Biological sponge separators are used for purifying wastewater using biological processes. These separators use specially designed sponges or media that serve as a home for microorganisms. Microorganisms naturally found in wastewater, when settled on the sponge, form a biological film that effectively degrades organic materials and pollutants present in the water.

Purification Process:

  • Arrival of Wastewater -Wastewater enters the separator where initially larger waste and particles are separated using mesh filters or grates.
  • Sedimentation -Heavier particles settle at the bottom of the separator, while lighter pollutants such as oils and fats rise to the surface and are removed.
  • Biological Treatment -Purified water from previous steps passes over or through biological sponges. Sponges are porous structures that provide a large surface area for the adhesion of microorganisms. Microorganisms on the sponge decompose organic materials in the water through processes such as nitrification and denitrification.
  • Pollutant Degradation -Microorganisms consume organic pollutants as their source of energy and nutrients, leading to their degradation. The degradation process transforms complex organic molecules into simpler, less harmful forms.
  • Disposal of Active Sludge – Over time, the biological film on the sponge becomes saturated and must be regularly removed to ensure the efficiency of the process. The removed biological film or active sludge can be further treated or used as compost.
  • Final Treatment -After passing through the biological sponges, water can go through additional purification stages such as UV disinfection or sand filtration, to further improve the water quality before its discharge into the natural environment or reuse.

Advantages of Separators with Biological Sponges

  • Low energy consumption as most of the process occurs naturally.
  • High efficiency in removing organic matter and pollutants.
  • Ability to adapt to different conditions and concentrations of wastewater.
  • Production of a smaller amount of secondary waste compared to chemical purification processes.

Maintenance of Separators with Biological Sponges

  • Regular removal and replacement of saturated biological sponges or media.
  • Control and maintenance of optimal conditions for the growth and development of microorganisms, including temperature, pH value, and the presence of oxygen.
  • Monitoring the quality of the outgoing water to ensure that all pollutants are adequately treated.

Separators with biological sponges represent an efficient and environmentally friendly method for wastewater purification, especially when the focus is on the biological degradation of organic materials.

Application of Oil Separators

Oil separators are key in automotive workshops, tire shops, production facilities, car washes, gas stations, parking lots, and similar places where oils and petroleum derivatives are regularly used. They help in preventing clogging of the sewage system and environmental pollution.

Maintenance of Oil Separators

Regular maintenance of oil separators is crucial for their efficiency. This includes visual inspection, cleaning of accumulated oil and sludge, as well as checking and cleaning coalescent filters. Coalescent filters can be used multiple times, but it is important to occasionally remove and wash them with clean water to preserve their functionality

Efficient oil separators are essential in industrial and commercial facilities to protect the sewage system and environment. The choice of separator type depends on the specific needs of the facility, the quantity, and the type of wastewater being treated. With regular maintenance and proper use, oil separators can significantly reduce risks associated with oil pollution.

How to Install Separators i.e., the Method of Separator Installation.

Our separators are easy to maneuver, so installation can be done in one day. Typically, digging is performed. It is preferable for the base of the separator installation to be a concrete slab, and backfilling is done with sorted soil. It is necessary to adjust the working heights of the overflow edges, connect the inlet and outlet pipes, which must be buried at a sufficient depth.
