Difference between smooth and ribbed tank construction
Smooth vertical tanks have no protruding ribs, making them lighter and visually cleaner, which makes them ideal for above ground installation without digging. They are easy to install, and the interior remains smooth and the stored liquid clean.
Tanks with external ribs offer extra strength and stability, making them suitable for horizontal or partially buried models. The ribs protect the tank from soil pressure and reduce the risk of deformation. The more ribs there are, the lower the chance of structural damage.
Regardless of the shape, all plastic tanks share the same key advantages. They are lightweight, resistant to corrosion and UV exposure, and the choice depends on available space, required capacity and installation location (indoors or outdoors).
Use of vertical water tanks and water cisterns
Vertical plastic tanks have wide application in agriculture, industry and households. They are most commonly used for
- Water storage – drinking water, technical water and rainwater. For gardens, cottages and farms, above ground water tanks or rainwater tanks are ideal, while larger industrial needs can be met with IBC containers or large water cisterns.
- Irrigation – in agriculture, irrigation tanks are often used for watering crops and orchards, including drip and sprinkler systems. Tractor mounted water tanks also allow mobile water delivery directly in the field.
- Fire protection systems – water stored in such tanks can serve as a reserve in case of fire. For this purpose, there are special fire protection plastic tanks, available in both vertical and horizontal versions depending on space.
- Fuel and oil – storing oil, diesel or heating oil is possible with fuel storage tanks, which do not react with or absorb the stored liquid. This includes above ground vertical tanks as well as models with liquid level indicators.
- Chemicals – in industry and agriculture, tanks are used for acids and aggressive liquids, such as hydrochloric acid tanks, sulphuric acid tanks, and standard HDPE tanks that store fertilisers and other chemicals.
- Grain silos – for storing dry bulk materials such as grains and flour, plastic grain silos are used. Their large volume and smooth inner surface make filling and emptying easy, while the material does not affect the quality of the stored produce.
- Wine and food industry tanks – in wineries and the food industry, plastic tanks are used thanks to their inert material, which does not alter the taste or smell of the product, similar to plastic wine tanks.
Alongside all these applications, Čabar Plast offers accessories such as pump and valve connections, measuring containers and lids, allowing tanks and cisterns to be customised for every requirement.
